Some people are more at risk of health impacts from heat and cold such as young children, older adults, those with pre-existing health conditions, outdoor workers, and those who are under-housed. It is important to be aware of and prepare for extreme temperature events. We notify the public when there are heat and extreme cold warnings issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada. During the warning periods, we share information on the health risks of over exposure to heat or cold and ways to help protect yourself and others.
During the extreme temperature event:
- plan ahead and modify your activities;
- listen to local weather reports and regularly check for weather alerts;
- dress for the temperature;
- take shelter or rest indoors; and
- check on family, friends, and neighbours.
