Injury Prevention

Many injuries are predictable and preventable. They often result from unsafe environments, conditions and behaviours. By recognizing, changing, and controlling certain factors, many injuries can be avoided.

Injuries happen to people of all ages, in all sorts of settings. The health unit’s work focuses on injuries from:

  • concussions
  • sports and recreation activities (land and water)
  • motorized vehicles
  • pedestrian and wheeled activities, like cycling, scootering, skateboarding and in-line skating

The health unit works with partners to prevent injuries in our communities.

We:

  • Lead or collaborate with community partners to build injury prevention strategies
  • Provide research and resources for community stakeholders.
  • Assess and modify our health programs and services to decrease injuries.
  • Advocate for policy change that will reduce injuries.
