MIDLAND - The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s new Midland office has been a welcome one for both staff and the public.
Since moving from the old high school on Hugel Avenue in April of 2019, into the new Georgian Bay District Secondary School building, public response has been positive to the fully accessible space.
A larger entrance area provides an improved setup for water bottle pick-up and drop-off for those residents having their well water tested. Information about health unit programs and services is on display and an open and bright reception area provides a welcoming environment for clients. Included in the space is a meeting room to host community partners, classes and workshops. A dedicated parking area next to the main entrance offers improved convenience for clients and families.
The relocation of the office maintains the excellent working relationship established between the health unit and Georgian Bay District Secondary School. It also continues to ensure a presence within the North Simcoe community and facilitates working with many key partners including healthcare providers, local hospitals, schools, social services, law enforcement and municipalities.
“We have enjoyed a beneficial partnership since 2010 with the school administration and students, as well as the Simcoe County District School Board, and we were very pleased to be able to continue in the new school facility,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner. “It is also important that this location provides access to the public by public transit and through safe active transportation means.”
A full suite of public health services is offered in the Midland space, including sexual health, oral health and immunization clinics, prenatal classes and parenting support, tobacco cessation support, needle exchange and sharps bin returns, naloxone kit training and distribution, inspection and environmental services. Staff also work with community partners to support health promotion, chronic disease prevention, and prevention of communicable diseases as well as efforts to build healthier communities. The office primarily serves the public within the catchment area of Tiny, Tay, Midland and Penetanguishene.
Members of the public are always welcome to visit.
