Placenta previa is when the placenta implanted and grew over the opening of the cervix which is where the baby must come out. There is no known cause.
Symptoms
For placenta previa, often there are no symptoms. When there are symptoms, they may include sudden, painless vaginal bleeding that is light to heavy or signs of early labour, such as regular contractions and lower back or belly aches and pains. It is usually found during routine ultrasounds.
Management
The pregnant individual is often confined to bed for the last few weeks of pregnancy. It can lead to hemorrhaging during labour so the baby is usually delivered by caesarean birth before labour has a chance to begin.
