Young children are still developing their immune systems, have decreased hygienic practices and have not received all of their vaccinations. All of which is why they get sick more often. Children also play closer together, mouth toys, share toys and they haven't learned or are still learning about respiratory etiquette and the importance of washing their hands. For these reasons, children spread germs to one another very easily. Some illnesses are quite contagious and can result in increased spread amongst the children and staff quickly, this is better known as an "outbreak".
