The CCE is hosting special heat series presentations. The series is aimed at local partners and organizations to support ongoing response planning for extreme heat events. Below are recordings of the heat series presentations.
Presentation #1: Experience from 2021 Western Heat Dome by Dr. Sarah Henderson (May 10, 2023)
Dr. Sarah Henderson is the Scientific Director of Environmental Health Services at the BC Centre for Disease Control and the Scientific Director of the National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health (NCCEH). She oversees a broad program of applied research, surveillance, and knowledge translation to support evidence-based environmental health policy and practice in BC and across Canada. She has been studying the population health effects of climate change for more than 20 years. In the presentation, Dr. Henderson shared the experience of the 2021 Western Heat Dome, the evidence gathered, and the BC Heat Alert and Response System that was developed in response to the extreme heat emergency event.

Presentation #2: Using Climate.Data.ca to Explore Future Heat Projections by the Canadian Centre for Climate Services (May 24, 2023)

Presentation #3: Irreversible Extreme Heat - Impacts we're experiencing and practical solutions for protecting individuals and communities from a lethal future by Caroline Metz (September 22, 2023)
Caroline Metz is the managing Director of Economics and Resiliency at the Intact Centre for Climate Adaptation, an applied research centre. Caroline's presentation highlighted the impacts of heat on infrastructure and services, natural environments, economy and health, and offered practical actions (e.g., behavioural, green infrastructure, and grey infrastructure) that can be taken to reduce the risks of extreme heat and provide additional co-benefits.
