INFORMED DECISION MAKING
People Who are Supportive of Breastfeeding
Do Not:
- Provide formula samples to pregnant (or breastfeeding) women
- Describe breastfeeding and formula feeding as ‘pretty much the same’
- Recommend having formula on hand ‘just in case’
- Show pregnant women how to prepare formula in a group setting
- Provide breastfeeding resources produced by formula manufacturers
Do:
- Refer pregnant women to reliable breastfeeding information/supports
- Share breastfeeding stories in a helpful way
- Understand that breastmilk has value at any age
