LESSON #3
INFORMED DECISION MAKING

The Breastfeeding Committee of Canada (2002) recommends that pregnant women and their families receive:

  • Clear, consistent, accurate information on the
  • benefits of breastfeeding and risks of not breastfeeding
  • basics of breastfeeding management
  • birth control methods that don’t affect breastfeeding
  • breastfeeding rights (women and infants)
  • Opportunities to explore feelings, attitudes and barriers to breastfeeding

By ensuring that families are offered clear, consistent, accurate information, and are given opportunities to ask questions and discuss concerns, we have enabled the process of informed decision making.

It is important to keep in mind that we have the responsibility to support mothers and families regardless of the decision they make.
