LESSON #3
INFORMED DECISION MAKING

Many people who work with pregnant women feel that breastfeeding is a personal choice, and that it is not their place to influence that decision. This couldn't be farther from the truth! Think about this: Formula manufacturers bombard pregnant women with advertising, educational materials and free samples with the goal of increasing the sales of their products.

Most women are aware of the benefits of breastfeeding. Unfortunately, for women who are at risk of not breastfeeding, the benefits of breastfeeding may not outweigh their "barriers" to breastfeeding. (See Lesson #1)
