LESSON #4
PROTECTING, PROMOTING AND SUPPORTING BREASTFEEDING

A Baby-Friendly™ hospital or community health service supports a mother to make a truly informed infant feeding decision. If a mother makes an informed decision not to breastfeed, then the health care provider must support her in her decision and ensure that she can provide formula in a safe and nurturing way. Of course, breastfeeding and formula feeding mothers receive the same standard of care.

The term Baby-Friendly™ was selected by UNICEF and WHO because a Baby-Friendly™ institution is inclusive of all babies, regardless of how they are fed.
